Bigcommerce Review: What Kind Of Merchant Should Use The Bigcommerce Platform?

Update: Bigcommerce Next is the next gen of Bigcommerce solutions. Essentially it’s an update and improvement to the existing platform that will feature new themes, a new theme store, new marketing features (built-in blog, one-click payment), and improved merchant support.

Bigcommerce is a relatively new (founded in 2009) ecommerce platform that was designed to combine high functionality with good user-experience. Merchants using the Bigcommerce platform can sell any type of product, ranging from physical products to events and services.

Like Volusion, Bigcommerce is loaded with features so it may be overwhelming to a very small retailer with a simple online store in mind. It’s ideal to be somewhat familiarized with shopping carts to get the most out of their many features.

When comparing ecommerce platforms, it’s clear that Bigcommerce is ideal for a retailer of any size because of the range of variation in their plans.  However, it can be pricey for a small retailer.

Note that Bigcommerce treats each product as SKU and does not count product options like size and color as a separate product. Check out all 5 Bigcommerce pricing plans to see which plan best fits your needs.
