Every quarter, we determine the best comparison shopping engines (CSEs) for online merchants. This holiday, Q4 2012 we broke down each CSE based on top metrics overall such as revenue and cost of sale (COS).

As well as individual categories including Apparel, Electronics, Home & Garden and Sporting Goods.

Below we’ve expanded further upon the rankings and broke down the performance of our sporting goods merchants.

Which CSE is the Best for Sporting Goods Merchants?

We’ll assume that you’ve familiarized yourself with the full rankings and we will avoid redundancy by skipping all the fine print.

The charts below show each of the objective criteria that we used to rank the engines in our original study.

Within each chart are the rankings for the specific category, as well as how they compare to the overall rankings—dark blue is the specific category, light blue is how they stacked overall.

To be clear, “Amazon” refers to Amazon Product Ads and not the Marketplaces.

Highest Traffic Generating Comparison Engine

What CSE generates the most traffic for sporting goods?

Shopping.com is our leader here with Google PLAs coming in second.

Nextag rounds out the top three with Pricegrabber well below it.

Best Engine for Sporting Goods Revenue

The gap is tighter here with Shopping.com still in the lead and Nextag isn’t far behind.

Highest Conversion % Shopping Channel

Google Free takes the top spot converting at just under 3% and Amazon Product Ads right behind it.

COS (Cost divided by Revenue) % Comparison Engine Breakdown

Pricegrabber beats out Google PLAs here with Shopping.com and Nextag behind it.

Which CSE has the Lowest Cost-Per-Click?

Once again Pricegrabber is below Google PLAs and this time Shopzilla finishes behind it.

Top Engine for Sporting Goods Sellers

Google PLAs is the leader here, just barely, over Shopping.com.

Free Google trails it just slightly and Pricegrabber isn’t far behind it.
