Google Shopping Video FAQs: Where Are The New Google Shopping Ads Showing?

Video Transcription:

So now let’s talk about where those ads are going to appear. Google’s been
experimenting with putting the new Google shopping ads in a few places on
their site. One of the places that they’ve talked about putting those
Google shopping ads, is right below the existing Adwords ads. So if we see
in this search for a Canon Rebel T3i, we’ll see the Adwords ads in the
standard peach-colored box, right at the top. Right below that we’ll see a
new box for these Google shopping ads. We can see in the top right corner
here, Google has labeled these, “sponsored results”. That’s how we can
tell that these are paid listing ads, as opposed to the typical Google
shopping ads, that used to show-up in the Google organic results.

Like I said, Google is experimenting with a few places for putting these
ads. So if you do the same search on Google and you don’t get exactly the
same result, don’t worry. You’re probably just seeing one of Google’s
tests. Rest assured, now that they’re making money off of these Google
Shopping ads, they’re going to be placing them in higher locations, and in
probably more locations. They’ve told us that these Google shopping ads
are going to replace the existing product listing ad real estate that we’re
used to seeing. And they’re also going to be placed in some additional
areas, to help grab the customer’s attention. We can see in this screen
shot here, these are the only ads with photos in them, so they already do a
pretty good job of getting that customer’s attention.

Let’s do a couple of searches on Google, and we can see a few different
ways these ads are going to show-up. Here on this page I’ve done that same
search for the Canon Rebel T3i, and we see the ads showing-up a little bit
differently. They’re actually showing-up within that shaded Adwords box.
So, this is a similar format to that other Google shopping box that we saw
before, but Google is actually placing these ads within the shaded Adwords
box. However, just because they’re in this box, doesn’t mean that they’re
typical Adwords ads. These are still POAs, and when Google launches Google
shopping, these are going to be Google shopping ads.

Let’s switch over to a separate search for the Canon Powershot. We can see
that in the typical shaded Adwords box there are no Google shopping ads,
only the typical Adwords ads. If we scroll down, we still see this old
Google shopping box. These are all free ads. We can tell this, because
they don’t have that sponsored box around them. Google is really good at
identifying which ads are paid and which ads are organic. These shopping
results are still the free listings, so if you’re showing-up here, don’t
worry, you’re not paying for these clicks.

However, we do see, in the top right corner, these PLA ads, underneath the
ads bar. These ads are going to be replaced by Google shopping ads as
well. Like we mentioned earlier, the Google shopping program is going to
replace the product listing ads program. That’s going to happen on this
page as well. The Google shopping ads are going to replace the real estate
that the PLA ads used to get. So, sometimes you’ll see a Google shopping
box in this section. Sometimes you’ll just see a stand-alone product
listing ad,, ads. But like I said, once Google fully launches Google
shopping, these are all going to be Google shopping ads. Assuming Google
finds relevant products for the customer’s search.
