If Only Robots Could Do SEO

Whenever I tell an online retailer to work on their SEO I feel like crap. Their response is usually one of four things:

1. a long silence

2. a grunt

3. a sigh

4. a trailing, “I know…”

Robot SEO

If only robots could do SEO.

Even if I give specifics – Your product titles suck. Your product descriptions suck. Your product pages are too thin in general, it doesn’t help much. I know why. It’s why I feel like crap.

Online retailers have at least 500 products to sell. Most have more than 1,000. Some more than 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, even 100,000 products.

That’s a lot of titles and descriptions to update.

I wish I had an easy way to tell online retailers: “Ok. You have 10,000 products. You have your team re-write 10 descriptions a day. If you have 10 people on your team, that’s 100 descriptions a day. 10,000 / 100 = only 100 days till all of your descriptions are up to date!”

That’s the best answer I got, and lets face it:

That answer sucks.
